Health risks and preventive measures at reception points
/0 Comments/in WASH/by nerudaThe concentration of large numbers of displaced people at key reception points increases the chances of spreading infectious diseases, such as diarrhea, scabies, smallpox, jaundice, worms, and leishmaniasis, leading to serious health risks and exacerbating suffering under these difficult conditions. Health education teams, in collaboration with the WASH team, distributed hygiene sacks and disseminated health guidelines. However, there is still an urgent need to provide hygiene tools and strengthen the sanitation system to ensure the health and safety of internally displaced persons (IDPs).

WASH team conducts initial assessments to receive IDPs
/0 Comments/in Emergency, Health, WASH/by nerudaGiven the importance of the water, sanitation, and hygiene sector during crises, the Kurdish Red Crescent WASH team conducted preliminary assessments of shelters for displaced people from #Aleppo and #Shahba areas. These assessments aimed to identify emergency interventions in humanitarian response within the water and sanitation sector. The measures included tests to monitor water quality, as well as identifying hygiene needs. Information and lists were also shared with partner organizations and the Office of Organisation Affairs, facilitating the rapid implementation of interventions to alleviate the suffering of internally displaced persons (IDPs).

/0 Comments/in Development, Health, PSS, Stories/by nerudaFaisal, who is 19 years old, has been receiving medical care at the Kurdish Red Crescent Hospital for Oncology, Thalassemia, and Burns for nearly a year. After going through this experience, Faisal wanted us to join him on a full day of his treatment journey, aiming to give us a glimpse into a part of his daily life. This step is not only to highlight the challenges he faces but also to encourage families about the importance of early attention and immediate intervention, which are essential elements in improving the health and lives of children with thalassemia. Faisal’s sharing of his experience serves as an urgent call for awareness about the importance of healthcare and providing necessary support for these children and their families. It is worth mentioning that the hospital welcomes blood donors on Mondays and Thursdays.
