Faisal’s treatment journey

2 December، 2024/in Development, Health, PSS, Stories/by neruda

Faisal, who is 19 years old, has been receiving medical care at the Kurdish Red Crescent Hospital for Oncology, Thalassemia, and Burns for nearly a year. After going through this experience, Faisal wanted us to join him on a full day of his treatment journey, aiming to give us a glimpse into a part of his daily life. This step is not only to highlight the challenges he faces but also to encourage families about the importance of early attention and immediate intervention, which are essential elements in improving the health and lives of children with thalassemia. Faisal’s sharing of his experience serves as an urgent call for awareness about the importance of healthcare and providing necessary support for these children and their families. It is worth mentioning that the hospital welcomes blood donors on Mondays and Thursdays.

he displacements from Lebanon to the Shahba areas highlight new suffering in addition to the previous displacement suffering

24 October، 2024/in Stories/by neruda

The displacements from Lebanon to the Shahba areas highlight new suffering in addition to the previous displacement suffering. Many IDPs have witnessed the same scenario, where they were previously forced to flee the city of Afrin as a result of the Turkish aggression, only to find themselves later in camps in cities such as Aleppo or Lebanon, looking for a safe life for their families away from conflicts and wars. In light of the current situation, the Shahba areas are once again opening their doors to receive people fleeing the ongoing conflict in Lebanon, where the displaced face a painful reality, with some living in camps with former displaced families, while others suffer from the lack of any shelter or support. In this context, the initiatives of the Kurdish Red Crescent are the embodiment of ongoing humanitarian work, where basic supplies such as sponges, blankets and kitchen baskets were distributed to displaced families in Sardam camp, contributing to alleviating their suffering and reflecting the spirit of social solidarity.

In the hope that joy will return to little Farah’s heart.

25 October، 2023/in Health, PSS, Stories/by neruda

Usually, targeting densely populated areas leads to numerous casualties and serious injuries among civilians. After the indiscriminate shelling of vital facilities and civilian areas in northern and eastern Syria by the Turkish state on May 4, 2023, which lasted for several days, it left many dead and wounded, including 14-year-old Farah. She was displaced from her village of Al-Ghabish in the countryside of Tel Tamr with her parents during the occupation of the city of Serekaniye due to indiscriminate shelling in that area.
The bombing continued to haunt her as she helped her mother pick cotton in the village of Al-Bashiriyah in the countryside of Al-Dirbasiyah, where she lost her legs due to a shell that fell on them on May 5, 2023.
Farah was treated by the emergency and ambulance team of the Kurdish Red Crescent in Al-Dirbasiyah and was transferred to a hospital in Hasakah. A medical team consisting of an orthopedic surgeon, a physiotherapist, and a psychological support team from the Kurdish Red Crescent was assigned to take care of her treatment, support, and rehabilitation until she receives lower limb prosthetics in the hope that joy will return to little Farah’s heart.
